CLASS LEADERSHIP BIOGRAPHIES

Jim WhiteJames K. White, Secretary.
Jim, or Jimmy, as his wife Catherine and close friends call him, was elected Class Secretary at our 45th reunion in New Haven in 2007. An attorney, he retired (happily) in 2002. He and Catherine, a banker, live in Washington, D.C. His daughter Isabel graduated from Yale College in 1996. He was born and raised in New Haven, a few blocks from the Bowl, and went to his first Yale football game in 1948, so he has been a Yalie virtually his whole life.

He has worked for Yale and our class in many capacities since graduation, as a fund raiser and later co-chair of agents, as an Alumni Schools interviewer and then committee chairman, at the Yale Club of Washington, D.C., where he was the President in 1991-92, and as our class rep to the AYA. He is an avid reader and even more avid Red Sox and Yale football fan who does a lot of exercise, traveling, and volunteer work. He'd love to hear from any classmate: jameskwhite@me.com, or 202-333-0590.

David HonneusDavid C. Honneus, Treasurer.
Elected Treasurer at our 45th Reunion while in a state of euphoria as Reunion Chair, David lives with his wife Virginia (Ginny, Yale Drama School) in Brewster, NY. They have two children, both grown and gone. Neither went to Yale. (Neither showed any interest!)

David has worked in magazine publishing, financial sales, and currently for the largest processor of credit cards, always in sales. David was a member of the Alumni Schools Committee for many years and could never understand why none of his applicants was ever admitted.

As a Drama major and Dramat member, officer and president, David met Ginny senior year in the University Theatre. Ginny teaches and studies ballet and they spend almost all of their discretionary income on theatre and ballet tickets. David has long served on the Dramat Alumni Advisory Board. He also produced the Friday night entertainments at our 35th and 40th reunions. He was our AYA Class Rep for the three years after our 40th. He claims to have very creative ideas for enlarging the Class Treasury so make sure your checkbooks are easy to find! Email David at dhonneus@comcast.net.

Mike KaneMichael Kane, Corresponding Secretary.
Elected at our 45th Reunion despite scant experience in alumni affairs (brief stint interviewing for the ASC & my picks never made it). Since 1981 lives in Newton, Massachusetts with first wife Nancy, breadwinner as a Professor and Associate Dean at Harvard's School of Public Health. Works occasionally with wife on financial analysis of hospitals. Daughters Margot (26) and Sara (23), neither of whom pursued Yale, are enjoying, respectively, UCal Berkeley business school and working for the ACLU in D.C.

"Born and raised" in Poughkeepsie, NY, CorSec, after local schools, went to Yale (sight unseen), fancying chemical engineering that by sophomore year, after sober assessment of lab aptitude, was replaced by History. Spent four sisyphean years trying to beat Harvard on the lightweight crew, beating Princeton once but Harvard won the same race (4/10 of a second) so they got the shirts. Went to Yale Law School without a career plan, had a short but interesting legal experience in D.C., followed by a rewarding stint on the Governor's staff in Maine, on to Harvard B-School (met wife there) and a banking career with The First National Bank of Boston.

After early years of international assignments in Hong Kong and Taiwan, returned to Boston to become an energy industry banker and reach exalted heights as a Managing Director. In 1999, that once-eminent Boston institution, after a series of self-inflicted setbacks, was acquired by the upstart Fleet Bank, and the future Corsec, fortified by a strong severance package, decided it was time for a less driven existence, which continues. Email Mike at mkane40@gmail.com.

Chris CoryChristopher T. Cory, Acting Corresponding Secretary.
Christopher T. Cory has been Director of Public Information for Pace University since the fall of 2002. He is responsible for increasing media attention to the University through a website, news releases and personal contacts.

He developed his writing skills as an editor and correspondent for TIME and Psychology Today magazines and is the co-author of Drugs from A (Alcohol) to V (Valium), published by Little, Brown and Co. He has encouraged and edited speechwriters at Philip Morris Companies and journalists, both amateur and professional, who wrote for the alumni magazines he edited and supervised before joining Pace at Connecticut College and Long Island University.

He earned his BA in English from Yale, and has won a Professional Journalism (Knight)Fellowship to Stanford and participated in the Executive program at the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern. Email Chris at ccory@pace.edu.

Gus W. HedlundGustav W. Hedlund, AYA Representative.
I live with my wife Patricia in Darien, CT. We have 3 children but no grandchildren yet. Our youngest child, Katharine, is in the class of 2014 at Northwestern University. I grew up in New Haven as my dad was a professor at Yale. We had moved to New Haven in 1948 from Charlottesville, VA and I started attending Yale football games when the bowl was often filled to capacity. At Yale I majored in Electrical Engineering and ended up as a software developer and eventually a co-founder of a software firm in New York City specializing in financial software. After we sold the company I continued to do consulting work until retiring in the mid '90s.

Since retiring I have spent my time with my Ham Radio hobby, sailing with the family and donating time to a local charity that raises money to help families in crisis with an emphasis on child abuse prevention. I am currently treasurer of the organization. Additionally, I enjoy attending Yale sporting events, especially hockey, which has enjoyed considerable success in recent years. Patricia and I plan to do more traveling when we are completely empty-nesters. Email Gus at gustavhedlund@msn.com.

Bill BoyerWillis B. Boyer, Chair of Alumni Fund Agents, Class of '62.
Bill received a BA from Yale in English, minor in Architecture, and a M.Arch. from University of Pennsylvania. He practiced architecture and city planning in Philadelphia and Cleveland until entering the real estate development field in the early 1970s. Bill has been "thinking about retiring" for many years, but is too involved to exit the business world entirely. He and his wife of 25 years, Martha, compromise by spending as much time as possible with their grandchildren and wintering in Florida.

He has developed a number of projects in the Cleveland area and now is helping Martha with her thriving preschool business by developing schools in suburban Cleveland. Bill has been active in various civic affairs in the Cleveland area, including, currently, Leadership Cleveland, class president, the Downtown Cleveland Improvement Corp, treasurer, and the Wm. G. Mather Museum in Cleveland , Vice President as well as serving as trustee of the Yale Alumni Association of Cleveland for many years, and as its AYA representative. He enjoys golf, reading, good conversation and has been known to fly out to the west coast on occasion for weekends of camaraderie with his pals there. He and Martha live in Moreland Hills, OH. They have five children, ages 29 to 45, and 7 grandchildren. Email Bill at willisb1@gmail.com.

Bob OliverBob Oliver, Chairman of 50th Reunion.
Our 50th Reunion is May 31-June 3, 2012. With the help of numerous volunteers, I promise an exciting, enjoyable experience with a wide variety of activities and lots of time for conversation and good fellowship.

My prior class experience includes a term as Class Secretary in the 1970s, Chairman of our 15th Reunion and writing class obituaries for the past 25 years.

Married since 1968 to Barbara, we live in New Haven, now on the Quinnipiac River after 3 decades in the Westville Section of town. We have 4 children: Rob (Adrienne) in New Haven, Mac (Lela) in Santa Barbara, Patrick in Oakland, and Kate in New Haven, plus 2 grandchildren, Liam and Seamus.

I am still actively practicing law with my firm (insurance defense and trials). I served 30 years in the Reserves, retiring in 1995 as a Navy JAG Captain, having started as an enlisted deck hand. I was in the Connecticut Legislature and on the New Haven Board of Aldermen (about 40 years ago). My activities and hobbies include Yale Sports, especially hockey and swimming, hiking and back packing, traveling and Red Sox baseball. I also pay dues to what seems like a list of innumerable organizations. Email Bob at oliver@moglaw.com.
